V.P. Seminozhenko was born on June 9, 1950, in Kyiv, into the family of a military man. His father, disabled veteran of the Great Patriotic war, now is retired. His mother, also on pension, since the age of 17 started working at a village school.

Since 1961 V.P. Seminozhenko lived in Kharkiv. After graduation from a physical-mathematics school with a golden medal, he entered into physical-technical department of the Kharkiv State University and graduated a year earlier by passing the exams without attending lectures. In two years he submitted a candidate's degree work, and at the age of 33, he became a doctor of science, and determined new directions in science which were internationally recognized.

In 1985 V.P. Seminozhenko was a General director of the scientific-industrial group "Monokristalreaktiv," and since 1991 he has been a director of the Scientific-technical complex "Institute of monocrystals" of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, a unique center of high technologies which works proved its practical usefulness for ecology, medicine, agriculture, the problem of Chornobyl. He made a great contributions in the development of works in the sphere of radiation control devices, the struggle against drug-business, and new methods of analyses of pollution of the environment.

Academician V.P. Seminozhenko, in 1993, was elected to the position of a member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine as a chairman of the North-Eastern scientific center. He is a winner of the State prize of Ukraine. He is one of a few scientists from Ukraine who represent it in the European scientific organizations.

He is a prominent organizer of science and industry. V.P. Seminozhenko headed the establishment of more than ten large science-consuming enterprises in the former Soviet Union and made great efforts to the entrance of Ukraine into the world market of high technologies. He initiated establishment in Kharkiv of the first Interdepartmental ecological center in Ukraine, the largest in the CIS center of dental implantation.

As a member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Science, V.P. Seminozhenko pays much attention to forming the modern economy of Ukraine. He proposed and published, in the mass media, specified schemes of holding of truly people's privatization, improvement of finance-credit system, holding of money reform, and stimulation of domestic and foreign investments approved by the Presidium of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine.

V.P. Seminozhenko is always concerned about development of culture and spiritual sphere. He initiated the establishment of the gallery of modern arts in Kharkiv, he is a head of the Council of the House of scientists and Fund for resurrection of the orthodox Christian spiritual center "Saint-Pokrovskiy monastery," and he is a member of administrations of other public movements and funds.

V.P. Seminozhenko is married, has two sons.
